CFD 1

Project Overview

Coleman Engineering was retained to provide design and construction engineering services to update the existing Mariposa sewer lift station to include emergency storage and also to mitigate the impacts of a new residential development interim flow condition by improving the CFD1 wastewater pump station.

Pre-design engineering analyzed the impacts of the flows on the existing pump stations using complex hydraulic modeling that took into account varying factors that would be generated by changes made to each of the three wastewater pump stations. Coleman Engineering made recommendations to Placer County who will be the eventual owner of the pump station. The final design replaces the existing 60 HP pumps with 75 HP pumps and associated pump starters.

Project Challenges

Challenges presented during the project included adhering to the design parameters set by the County and also an unspecified volume of emergency storage. This required extensive modeling by the Coleman Team to determine the volume required to serve the new development but with the provision of the ability to add further storage to serve future developments. Coleman Engineering balanced the requirements of the two mains stakeholders in the project; the developer and eventual owner, Placer County, to finalize a design and budget that satisfied both parties.
