Coleman Engineering provided federal funding application and coordination assistance; preliminary and final design; preparation of construction plans and technical specifications; and bid phase and engineering services during construction services for this wastewater improvements project funded by USDA. The wastewater treatment plant upgrades included the following:
Refurbishment of the existing influent sewer lift station.
850 feet of fused PVC pipeline as a new influent gravity sewer.
Sludge dredging and aeration pond rehabilitation.
Headworks reconfiguration to include a new vertical screen and a submersible pump.
New headworks building.
The construction cost estimate was $777,000. The final out-turn cost was $782,455: including additional work added by the District.
Key Challenges & Solutions
Construction took place during winter months, which added complexity to dewatering, temporary bypass pumping and pipe sliplining activities. Working closely with the Contractor and the District, we provided detailed assessments of proposed methods of working and closely monitored construction operations with full-time inspection staff.
