Relocation of a flood control channel crossing, microtunneling trenchless installation, and coordination to maintain access during construction
Collected multiple stakeholders’ input and provided bypass road and protection plans to accommodate access requirements.
Project Summary
Coleman Engineering was retained by William Lyon Homes to design new HDPE twin sewer force mains and assist in managing the process of developing a reimbursement agreement between Union Sanitary District (USD) and William Lyon Homes. Coleman managed the pipeline relocation design effort including coordination with USD and the City of Newark. Coleman is also providing extensive engineering services during construction.
The design consisted of two parallel, 36-inch force mains pipelines totaling almost 10,000-feet of pipeline. A majority of the design used open trench pipe installation, but approximately 130-feet of microtunneling was required to cross beneath a flood control channel. Access and air release manholes were designed to USD standards. The design includes detailed engineering required for connection to the existing 36-inch prestressed concrete force mains.
